Believe it or not, once you start solving brain teasers, you would love to solve more of them. The best way to enjoy brain teasers is to solve them without looking at the answer until you come up with your own answer.

Let’s look at some example brain teasers and how to solve them.

  • The Bear: The first brain teaser is The Bear. It says that a bear walks towards south for one kilometer and then it walks towards west for one kilometer. This is then, followed by his walk towards north for one kilometer and this makes his stand at the same point from where he started. So, what was the color of the bear?

Answer: The bear is of white color, since it is a polar bear. North Pole is the only place on the earth, where a bear can go towards the south, west and north directions for equal distances and will reach the same place from where it started.

  • The Jewelry Box: The second brain teaser example is The Jewelry Box. It says that in an eBay auction, a woman’s ring and a filigree jewelry box bearing a hand-painted ceramic top are on a sale for just $200. The jewelry box is priced at $190 more than the ring. So, how much does the ring costs?

Answer: The ring costs $5. Many of you would say the ring costs $10, but this is the wrong answer. Since, the box and the ring costs $200 and the box alone costs $190 more than the ring, meaning the box is actually equal to the price of the ring plus $190.

So, the calculation would be:

Box + Ring = 200

Box = Ring + 190

Ring + 190 + Ring = 200

2 Rings + 190 = 200

2 Rings = 200 – 190

Ring = 10/2

Ring = 5
